Swathi Damaraju is currently a Masters student in biomedical engineering at the University of Calgary. Under the supervision of Dr. Neil Duncan, she is currently studying intercellular communication and mechanobiology of stem cells. Swathi was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Alberta in June 2009. Throughout her undergraduate degree, she has held research awards from AHFMR and Alberta Cancer Board. Swathi has a wide research background, ranging from cancer research at the Cross Cancer Institute to surface topography research for scoliosis patients at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Research Centre. She is first author on a cancer publication in Biochemical Pharmacology and has submitted two scoliosis papers to Spine. She currently holds a Skeletal Regenerative Medicine Team trainee award. In her free time, Swathi learns and teaches Indian Karnatic classical singing, and enjoys reading, camping, and golfing.
