A native of Etobicoke, Ontario, in 1998 Julia completed her Hon. B.Sc. in Biological Anthropology at the University of Toronto. She continued her studies of primate evolutionary anatomy at University College London, where she earned her PhD and was supported by an Overseas Research Award and several awards from the UCL Graduate School. Curiously, most of the Canadians Julia met while in London grew up within 10 km of her childhood home. In 2002, Julia undertook her first postdoc at the University of British Columbia where her work on jaw identity and patterning was supported by the Killam Trusts. Now an AHFMR postdoctoral fellow at the U of Calgary, Julia studies craniofacial variation, development and evolution with Dr. Hallgrimsson. Julia also serves on the Executive of the Postdoctoral Association of the U of Calgary. In 2009 Julia completed the Science Communications Program offered at The Banff Centre. In between enjoying the company of her partner and young son, Julia enjoys working out, dabbling in college radio, and reading fiction. She has a strange fondness for the Weather Network.
