Born and raised in Brazil, Giovanna Lara, holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology (July 2003) from Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Currently, at the age of 29, she has recently been accepted into the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program at University of Calgary under supervision of Dr. Kristina D. Rinker (Ph.D., P.Eng) and is co-supervised by Dr. Derrick E. Rancourt (B.Sc. (Guelph), Ph.D. (Kingston)) who bring in depth knowledge of Engineering and Stem cells respectively to carry out an interdisciplinary research. She started a project on Cellular Reprogramming at UBC and is currently working on the effects of Fluid Forces and specific Media on ES cells pluripotency and differentiation into osteo and chondrocyte cell lineages. In her spare time she likes to read, go to the movies and hang out with friends.
